Blended cocktails are always a source of extreme refreshment, and can certainly bring on occasional brain freeze. The secret to making great frozen cocktails is to use big and bold flavours. It is no coincidence that there are very few unflavored frozen vodka cocktails, but a great deal of recipes using tequila or rum. The reason for this is simple. Frozen drinks are highly diluted, as they start with crushed ice and are whizzed until the resulting cocktail resembles frozen slush. Highly diluted drinks need big and bold flavours to stand up to this aggressive treatment, and as such benefit from sweet and flavorful fruits such as mango, pineapple, or coconut.
